A concept that was
born out of a not-so-simple Christmas request made by my 16-year-old
son, Kevin.
"Mom, all I want
for Christmas is some patch pants."
Great - what on
earth are "patch pants"?
After what seemed
like hours of Kevin's description and explanation, Kevin's Christmas
request was about as clear as mud. So, I spent hours and hours
online looking for something that was even close to what Kevin
described. But every time I thought I'd found something and called
for Kevin to come and look, he said "well, SORT of like that, but
not exactly..."
So, I finally
decided to use my 25+ years of high-quality seamstressing and
creative clothing design experience and CREATE what Kevin wanted.
After all, they DO say that "necessity is the mother of
invention"...
Or
is that "invention is the necessity of the
mother"???
Anyway, a
couple of weeks later Kevin had what he thought was the
"coolest pair of pants EVER!" Since then, Kevin gotten several
more pairs of patch pants and now also a supply of patch shorts for
summer; then I got to enjoy a few patch and boho skirts and a couple
fun purses and bags. Not only has OUR family enjoyed these unique
and fun quality clothes, but wonderful clients all over the United
States have enjoyed these items as well!
That's how
www.CoolPatchPants.com was born!
Now YOU
can have the "COOLEST PANTS EVER", too!
(and
"coolest SHORTS", and "coolest SKIRT", and "coolest PURSE", and on
and on.....)
By the way,
your purchase also allows me to continue to work from home and spend
more time with my FIVE kids (BELIEVE me, my teens need me
around probably more than my toddler does!) You're also helping me
show my kids how to follow a dream to its fruition, how to make
money doing something you love to do, and how to start a business
from the ground up - very valuable lessons that will help my kids
grow into happy, prosperous adults - and hopefully to follow their
OWN dreams!

Our Process

My
husband tells me that I put too much thought into things -
ALL things. And I tell him that I'm just a
perfectionist and want to make sure things are right the
first time!
I'm
very proud of my creativity and my work - I would
never expect anyone else to wear or give something that I wouldn't
be completely proud to give or wear myself! I put a
great deal of effort into selecting complementary fabrics,
"balancing" and achieving the desired color effects, and making sure
the quality of my work will ensure years of enjoyment!
Each
Custom-Made garment has created when it's ordered - not before - to
ensure the desired effect for each and every
client. The fabric for every garment is made by me, by
hand. I hand-select the desired fabrics, cut the fabrics to achieve
the specific effect for each garment, painstakingly
lay each fabric out (and usually rearrange them dozens of
times!) just to make sure that the look I'm getting is the look my
client will love. I then connect everything
together into one large piece of "fabric". Fabrics for some items,
such as pants or bags, are also top-stitched for a sporty look and
to add even greater strength to the fabrics, which is especially
important for garments that need to be able to withstand heavy use.
Stress points, like pocket corners and bag straps and crotch
seams, are always double- or triple-stitched. (Believe
me, I believe in the importance of extra crotch reinforcement -
with three teenage boys who are very active and love activities like
tackle football, tackle frisbee (yes, they really DO play
that!), and wrestling with each other, I've had to do a LOT of
repairs to pants, even heavy-duty store-bought
ones!!)
The
hardest thing for me to do is to actually part with the items I
create - unfortunately, I can't keep them all! But I put my heart
and soul into each and every item - it's MY personal investment in
YOUR happiness and enjoyment!

Our Family
*

We
have a busy BUSY household! Four teenage boys
(Ryan, Kevin, Nicholas, and Joe), one teen girl (Stephanie),
and one toddler (Joey, who seems more like THREE toddlers all rolled
into one!) - and there are always kids' friends milling in and
out... Ours is a busy house - and a
HAPPY one! But my husband and I are lucky if
we EVER get any sleep!
We
live in a wonderful municipality in the county just outside a
pretty large metropolitan city - pretty much the best of all worlds.
Our little town is rather eclectic, with a lot of other people like
me - around here someone like me is referred
to as something like a "Birkenstock-wearing tree-hugging
granola munching grown-up hippie" - or something like that,
anyway. My husband and I cloth-diaper, family-bed, baby-wear, and
practice child-lead weaning. I'll admit, I'm the more fanatical
between the two of us - at first, my husband just sort of "came
along for the ride" and indulged my fanatacisms - but soon I started
overhearing him sing the praises of our "attached family lifestyle"
to anyone who would listen. And I realized that, lo' and
behold, he actually HAD been listening to me all those times I'd
start spouting off statistics and new research when I'd actually
thought all he was doing was watching the ball game!
To
my husband, Pete - Honey, if you're reading this, THANK
YOU for all your support, encouragement, love, and
appreciation, not to mention your patience with all my
idiosyncrasies and fanatical ideas! 0:-)
And
to my kids - Thanks, guys, for not rolling your eyes at me TOO much
when I get some new crazy idea, and for humoring me when I ask your
opinion about something that I'm sure you really couldn't care less
about - but you act like it's as important to you as it is to me
anyway!
